STUDY PROGRAM


1st Semester:            

1) Lecture – viewing of images “on plaster.” (On the nature and history of plaster, its role in the evolution of sculpture, the role of the cast in the development of sculpture and culture in general.)
2) Plaster cast and copy of original clay work.
3) Cast from human body part, e.g. head, hand, etc.
4) Casts in all types of rubber.
5) Copy in cement.
6) Copy in paper.
7) Exercise exploring the relationship of the workshop materials with sculpture.
8) Lecture – viewing of images related to the subject of the above exercise.


2nd Semester:           

1) Lecture – viewing of images on the nature and history of bronze and the artistic casting process (lost wax method).
2) Application of all the stages of the aforementioned process, casting in bronze or aluminium or glass.
3) Exercise exploring the relationship of the materials with sculpture.
4) Lecture – viewing of images related to the subject of the above exercise.
5) Visit to museum or artist’s studio.


3rd semester:     

1) Copy using resins.
2) Copy using rubber.
3) Split cast.
4) Exercise exploring the relationship of the workshop materials with sculpture.
5) Lecture – images related to the subject of the above exercise.
6) Visit to artist’s studio or museum.


4th semester:

1) Enlargement in plaster.
2) Casting in aluminium or bronze of a composition that contains materials that evaporate during the “de-waxing” stage.
3) Exercise exploring the relationship of the materials with sculpture.
4) Lecture – images related to the subject of the above exercise.

 

5th semester:   

1) Free composition using the materials (plaster, cement, wax, etc.)
2) Full human body cast.


6th semester:

Casting of free composition in bronze or aluminium.

 

Each semester’s curriculum is complimented with references to special subjects, individual artists, etc.
