The history of the Athens School of Fine Arts, founded as the School of Arts in 1837, is almost as long as the history of the modern Greek state.Today the Athens School of Fine Arts is an independent higher education public institution. The school seeks to develop the artistic skills of studrnts through teaching and research. It gives students the theoritical and practical knowledge they need about the visual arts to contribute to the country's social and cultural development.In addition to the Department of the Fine Arts, a postgraduate department in Digital Arts is in operation.There are 900 undergraduate and 40 postgraduate students registered for the 2002/3 academic year.
